How to look after your mental health

5 Ways to wellbeing

Evidence shows that there are 5 things we all need in our lives to improve our wellbeing. These are:

  • Connect: Connecting with other people and having people close to us who we can confide in

  • Be active: Physical activity is not just good for our bodies, it’s good for our minds too

  • Take notice: In our busy lives, we do not often take the time to relax and enjoy our surroundings. Being mindful of what’s going on around us improves our wellbeing

  • Keep learning: Our brains respond well when we take up a new hobby or learn a new skill and continue to challenge ourselves

  • Give: Do something nice for a friend or relative, help out with a good cause, raise money for charity or smile at strangers. When we do something good for other people, it’s good for us, too
