Learning something new

Research shows that learning something gives us confidence and a sense of purpose. You do not even have to be good at something to get the benefits, but you might surprise yourself.

It’s all about giving something a go, whether it’s picking up an old hobby, or looking into a particular topic you’ve always wanted to know more about.

Ideas

  • Find out something new about one of your colleagues.

  • Complete a daily Sudoku, quiz, crossword or word game.

  • Listen to a podcast or watch a documentary, maybe even try a topic that would not normally be something you’d choose.

  • Read more. You can join your local library by visiting the council website.

  • Use the internet. Enrol on a free online course from the Open University, download Duolingo and learn a language. Find a new recipe to try on the BBC Good Food website.

  • Have a grand day out. Stockport has a range of great museums and other community spaces that can keep you learning.
