Steady in Stockport Service
The Steady in Stockport Falls Prevention and Bone Health Service can help you if you've:
- had a fall
- lack confidence with balance and walking
- had a diagnosis of osteoporosis
- had a previous fragility fracture, particularly of the hip, spine and/or wrist
To access the service you'll need a referral from a health or social care professional.
What we can do:
- advise you or assess your risk of falling
- assess your bone health and advise you on how to keep your bones as strong as possible
- work with you to develop a falls and fracture intervention plan to reduce your risk of falling, improve your confidence with going out and about, reduce your fear of falling and improve bone health. A home hazard assessment and recommendations for equipment can also be provided
- support you to improve your bone health if you're at risk or diagnosed with osteoporosis
- offer individually tailored home exercise programs to improve balance, muscle strength and physical well-being
- signpost you to group exercise classes run in partnership with Life Leisure. These include; how to stay steady, improve your bone health and allow you to meet up with people in a similar situation
- teach you how to cope in the event of a fall. This includes; how to get up off the floor or seek help if you're not able
- provide regular information and education sessions for people at risk of falls and for people diagnosed with osteoporosis or fragility fractures

The Steady in Stockport Team includes the following specialists:
- physiotherapists
- support workers
- fracture liaison nurses
The team works closely with a range of other specialists and services including:
- dieticians
- the continence service
- the equipment and adaptations service
- crisis response team
- community therapy team
- active recovery team
- hospital staff
- health and social care staff in the community
Peer support and education sessions
The bone health arm of the Steady in Stockport Service organises 2 education sessions per year and a peer support network. You can learn more about osteoporosis and will have the opportunity to meet others living with the same condition.
