Connect 5
Connect 5 is a free mental health promotion training programme that aims to change the way we have conversations about mental wellbeing across Stockport. It's designed to increase confidence and skills so that you can have better mental wellbeing conversations, whatever your role.
Connect 5 is ideal for anyone working or volunteering with the public and helps you to:
- better understand how to improve your own mental wellbeing and that of others
- increase your skills and confidence to have everyday conversations about mental wellbeing
- increase your knowledge in signposting to available support
The techniques used by Connect 5 are underpinned by:
- the 5 Ways to Feel Good
- methods for understanding stress and distress
- learning tools for self-management
How it works
There are 3 modules and you can choose to do 1, 2 or all 3 depending on the requirements of your role.
Module 1 is suitable for everyone and can be taken on its own. It's designed to help you offer brief wellbeing advice that helps a person think about actions they can take to improve their mental wellbeing.
Module 2 starts to introduce basic motivational interviewing techniques. It's suitable if you're having more in-depth wellbeing conversations where you develop a shared understanding of wellbeing needs.
Module 3 further explores motivational interviewing. It's suitable if you're meeting people on a regular basis to help improve their wellbeing and empower them to make changes.
Modules 2 and 3 are better suited to people working or volunteering in some kind of wellbeing or mental health role.
