Support and resources to help you stop smoking

We know that quitting can be difficult but with a range of support available to help, you can do it.

START (Stockport Triage Assessment and Referral Team)

The START team can offer advice and support to help you stop smoking.

The team will talk to you on a one-to-one basis, and can guide you towards the support that's best for you. You can also call them if you'd like more information or advice.

The service operates:

  • Monday to Thursday from 9am to 5pm
  • Friday from 9am to 4:30pm

Evening appointments are also available.

ABL Stockport Community Stop Smoking Service

ABL Stockport offer support around smoking and vaping for anyone aged 12 or over who lives in Stockport.

This includes one-to-one support from a specialist adviser and the offer of free nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) and regulated vapes to help you quit smoking. They can also arrange for other stop smoking medication to be prescribed from your GP if needed.

ABL will work with you to create a personal plan tailored to meet your needs and offer:

  • flexible times and venues across Stockport
  • direct supply of NRT and vapes
  • face to face and telephone support

NHS Better Health

The NHS Better Health website has lots of information, free tools and tips to help you quit.

You can also:

  • download the free NHS Quit Smoking app which offers tracking tools, daily support and tips
  • get your free personal quit plan which finds the combination of support that’s right for you
  • sign up for daily email support with tips and motivational messages throughout your 28 day quit smoking journey
  • join the Quit Smoking Support Group on Facebook and join with others going through the same thing in a friendly and supportive environment

  • Monday to Friday from 9am to 8pm
  • Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 4pm

Smoke Free app

Residents living in Stockport and the rest of Greater Manchester are eligible for 6 months of free, premium access to the Smoke Free app. This includes the opportunity to receive a free 4-week starter vape kit posted straight to your door, to help you on your quitting journey.

The app also includes:

  • 24/7 access to stop smoking advisors
  • tools highlighting progress and money saved
  • the opportunity to share how far you’ve come with others on your quitting journey
