They do this through:
- engagement and outreach
- workshops and training sessions
- peer support and mutual aid
- one-to-one support
- complimentary therapies
- needle and syringe exchanges
- support for family and friends
- education, training and employment
- recovery groups
- specialist onward referrals.
The CGL service is split into two types of help - early intervention and recovery.
Early Intervention Team
The Early Intervention Team work with people who need some help to address their alcohol and drug use and who are likely to need some short term support or treatment. This may be a one off intervention or several sessions with a worker and accessing workshops to get a better understanding of issues and how to address them.
The service provides support to those who are concerned about other people’s alcohol and drug use. It helps people understand the issues, develop coping mechanisms for themselves, and gives advice around how best to support their loved ones.
This service also ensures that needle exchanges are available throughout the borough.
The Recovery Team work with people who want help as they get ready to leave treatment or are no longer in treatment but want some support to maintain their goals or get back on track.
This team focus on the needs of the user. Types of support offered include:
- having someone to talk to or a place to go at a difficult time
- supporting people into education or employment
- helping with stable housing or any other issues that you're facing
This service also provides additional support via a network of volunteers.
