Description

’My Lockdown Story’ is a project inviting anyone who lives, studies, works or has a connection to Stockport to document your experience of lockdown through creativity. Exploring simple creative writing and mixed media arts techniques such as collage and drawing to produce a lovely miniature hardback concertina book, artist Alison Waters will guide you through telling the story of your year, framed by lockdown. We hope that they will be a thoughtful, beautiful and tangible product of your experience, a focused opportunity to favour creation over rumination, and to connect with others.

Your story will be yours, whatever it may be, however the sessions will inspire a positive focus and invite you to pull on strings of hope. Did you discover something new? Explore a new place? Grow in some way or realise something? Did you support others? Did your artistic practice develop?

The project consists of:

  • a course of 4 online sessions with the artist
  • an online exhibition of all the documented participant books during summer 2021. Any practicing artists, groups or businesses, we will endeavour to share your work
  • a large-scale collaborative exhibition commemorating our experiences of lockdown and looking forward at Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery in collaboration with The Doll’s House Art Gallery
